Mehran

Mehran is a Persian given name and surname with deep roots in ancient Iranian religion. The name is most commonly derived from an Old Persian compound *Mithranah, which combines the name of the Zoroastrian god Mithra with the suffix -anah. In modern Persian, the element mehr evokes the dual concepts of kindness and the sun, captured in the literal translation “kind, sun.” The name Mithra itself, from Avestan mithra meaning “oath, covenant,” played a central role in the Zoroastrian pantheon as a god of light and truth, whose worship eventually spread to the Roman Empire as the cult of Mithras.
