In the biblical narrative, Tamar, daughter of David, appears in 2 Samuel 13. She was described as beautiful, and her half-brother Amnon became obsessed with her, eventually raping her. This act set off a chain of events leading to Amnon's murder by her full brother Absalom and played a significant role in the conflict that marked David's later years. While the Hebrew Scripture uses the name Tamar, the Greek Old Testament (Septuagint) often rendered it as Themar in specific manuscripts, though the more common Greek form is Thamar (Θαμάρ).
