Oskars is a Latvian masculine given name, the local form of Oscar. The name Oscar itself is believed to derive from Old Irish elements oss meaning "deer" and carae meaning "friend," thus "deer friend." Alternatively, it may trace back to the Old English name Osgar or its Old Norse cognate Ásgeirr, which could have been introduced to Ireland by Viking settlers. In Irish mythology, Oscar was the son of the poet Oisín and a grandson of the hero Fionn mac Cumhaill.
