Eber (also Hebrew: עֵבֶר) is a biblical name meaning "region beyond" in Hebrew, derived from the root עָבַר (ʿavar), "to pass over, to cross." In the Old Testament, Eber is a descendant of Shem and an ancestor of the Hebrews, as described in the Generations of Noah (Genesis 10–11) and the Books of Chronicles (1 Chronicles 1).
