Andras is the Faroese form of Andreas (see Andrew). This name is a variant of the Greek name Andreas, derived from andreios meaning “manly, masculine,” ultimately from aner meaning “man”. In the New Testament, Andrew is the first apostle called by Jesus and the brother of Simon Peter. According to tradition, he preached in the Black Sea region and was crucified on an X-shaped cross.
