Uros

Uros is an alternate transcription of Serbian Урош, seen as Uroš. The name derives from a medieval Hungarian name, possibly from úr meaning "man, lord" combined with a diminutive suffix. This was borne by five Serbian kings.

Etymology

Though the root of Uroš is connected to Hungarian nobility, the name as known in Serbian is closely tied to the Nemanjić dynasty, which ruled medieval Serbia. The most notable bearer was Tsar Uroš I (reigned 1243–1276) and Stefan Uroš II Milutin, whose long reign marked a period of prosperity and construction of monasteries. By the 14th century, Uroš became a traditional name among Serbian royalty, though its modern use in Serbia has declined.
