Sappheire is the Greek form of Sapphira. The name appears in the Acts of the Apostles in the New Testament, though it is often rendered as Sapphira in English. In the biblical account, Sapphira is the wife of Ananias, and together they are struck dead for lying to the Holy Spirit.
