Ophiuchus is the Latinized form of the Greek name Ophiouchos (Ὀφιοῦχος), meaning "serpent bearer". This name is used for a large constellation that straddles the celestial equator. In Greek mythology, the constellation represents the god Asklepios holding a snake, a symbol of healing and medicine.
