Jimmu is a legendary figure from Japanese mythology, renowned as the first emperor of Japan. His name, meaning "divine warrior," is derived from the Japanese elements jin (神, "god") and mu (武, "military, martial"). According to ancient chronicles such as the Nihon Shoki and the Kojiki, Jimmu (神武天皇, Jinmu Tennō) was the founder of the Japanese imperial line, said to have reigned in the 7th century BCE.

In Japanese mythology, Jimmu is portrayed as a descendant of the sun goddessAmaterasu via her grandson Ninigi, and also of the storm god Susanoo.
