Etymology
Heimirich is the Old High German form of the widespread name Henry. It is a compound name built from the Germanic elements heim meaning "home" and rih meaning "ruler", thus signifying "home ruler". This ancient form predates the later standardized spelling Heinrich, which emerged under the influence of other Germanic names such as Aimeric (from elements meaning "enclosure" and "ruler").
The name Henry became exceptionally popular across Europe, carried by numerous monarchs and saints. In the Old High German period, Heimirich would have been the vernacular form before the spelling shifted. Over time, the Latinized version Henricus gave rise to countless vernacular variants including French Henri and English Harry.

Though bears of the specific name Heimirich are poorly documented in historical records (the form being largely reconstructed from linguistic evidence), dozens of rulers bore related forms. Among them are seven German kings named Henry (Heinrich), beginning with Henry I the Fowler (10th century). Four French kings also named Henri, and eight English kings named Henry or Henry Henry — including Henry VIII — continued the royal ttraditional popularity.
