Etymology
Grigore is the Romanian form of Gregory, derived from the Late Greek name Γρηγόριος (Gregorios), which comes from γρήγορος (gregoros) meaning "watchful" or "alert." The name was popular among early Christians, borne by several important saints and 16 popes, notably Pope Gregory I the Great.
