Eliseu is the Portuguese form of the ancient Hebrew name Elisha, derived from the Hebrew ʾĔlîshúaʿ meaning "my God is salvation," from elements ʾēl (God) and yāšaʿ (to deliver). In the Old Testament, Elisha was a prophet and miracle worker, the successor of Elijah.
