Meaning & History
Efterpi is the modern Greek form of the ancient name Euterpe. Derived from the Greek elements "delight", ultimately from εὖ (eu) meaning "good" and τέρπω (terpo) meaning "to satisfy, to cheer", the name was borne by one of the nine Muses in Greek mythology. The mythology figure Euterpe was the muse of music and joy who was credited with inventing the double flute. Used primarily in Greece today, Efterpi preserves this classical legacy while adapting the phonology to modern Greek speech patterns.
