Asadollah

The name Asadullah was first applied as a title to the Islamic prophet Muhammad's closest kinsmen: initially to his uncle Hamza ibn Abd al-Muttalib, and later to his cousin and son-in-law Ali ibn Abi Talib. According to Islamic tradition, after the Battle of the Trench, Muhammad praised Ali's defeat of Amr ibn Abd al-Wud by declaring him Asadullah (Lion of God), stating that Ali's strike was greater than the worship of both mankind and jinn until the Day of Judgement.
