The most famous bearer of this name in antiquity was the 5th-century BC Athenian statesman Aristides the Just (c. 530–468 BC). Renowned for his fairness and integrity, he was a key figure in the formation of the Delian League and later ostracized due to political rivalry, though he was recalled to serve Athens again. His epithet "the Just" reflects the name's etymological emphasis on moral excellence.
