Meaning & History
Naeem is a common alternate transcription of the Arabic name نعيم (see Naim) and the standard form used in Urdu and Bengali. It is also a surname.
Etymology and Meaning
The name derives from the Arabic root نعم (n-ʿ-m), from the verb naʿima meaning "to live in comfort, to be delighted." The core meaning of Naeem is "tranquil, happy, at ease". In Islamic theology, Naʿīm (often Anglicized as Naim) is the name of one of the levels of Paradise, described in the Quran as a place of bliss and eternal happiness. The phonetic variant Naeem spread across the Indian subcontinent via Urdu, where it is a popular Muslim name, as well as in South Asian Muslim communities in Myanmar, Nepal, and the United Kingdom.
